Honestly, was there ever any question who would show up as the best-dressed at the Lone Star Music/KOKE-FM “Dillo Mixer” at Threadgill’s last Friday? Leave it to Kevin “Shinyribs” Russell — aka the “Maytag Repairman of Love” and the “Pavarotti of the Pineywoods” — not to disappoint in the musical or threads department. Resplendent in a vintage key-lime green suit (for St. Paddy’s Day, obviously), Russell led the rest of the Shinyribs gang — and a packed outdoor patio of happy fans — through an outrageously entertaining mid-afternoon set heavy on tunes from the brand new I Got Your Medicine. Here they are performing the album’s joyously soulful title track.
Other performers at this year’s Dillo Mixer included Robyn Ludwick, Sunny Sweeney, Band of Heathens, Michigan Rattlers, Chris Fullerton, Walt Wilkins, the Railhouse Band, Shane Cooley & the Midnight Girls, and the Jibs.
