LoneStarMusicMagazine.com wants to know: What were YOUR favorite Americana, Texas, and/or Red Dirt music albums of the year? We’ve taken the liberty of rounding up 100 eligible contenders — from best-sellers and chart-toppers from some of the biggest names in the genre to noteworthy releases by scrappy underdogs, legends, proud independents and buzz-building up-and-comers. All you have to do is scroll through our gallery and pick your favorites. The preffered number is 10, but if you somehow can’t find 10 albums here you genuinely loved, pick 5. Can’t quite narrow it down to just 10? Pick 15. And if you’re so inclined, you can pick ’em again every day (once a day) from now until midnight on New Year’s Eve. We’re all just having fun here, so we’re not gonna get all rules-y on you; just make sure you click “Save Votes” each time you’re finished with all your picks. Plus, if you register with your email address (not required), you will be entered in a drawing for one of three prizes: two $50 gift certificates (to be used at either LoneStarMusic.com or at Superfly’s Lone Star Music Emporium in San Marcos, Texas), and your pick of any 10 albums (on CD) from our list of 100.
Got it? Then get to it!
Please add to the list maybe the best lp of 2016 – Jamestown Revival’s “The Education Of A Wandering Man”
Jamestown just missed the cut – we had asked for writers, radio folks and other Americana music industry insiders to provide us with lists and then compiled them to come up with this list of 100. They narrowly missed the cut – but several of us here at LSM agree they should have been included.
No Cass County? I know it came out in 15,but late 15!
But still ’15. ; )
I agree about Jamestown Revival!
I can’t for the life of me figure out how Zane Williams is not an option here.
“The Token” – Elise Davis
“FM” – Farewell Milwaukee
“Young in all the Wrong Ways” – Sara Watkins*
“Resistor” – Lera Lynn*
“Heart Like A Levee” – Hiss Golen Messenger*
“The Narrows” ‘- Grant Lee-Phillips
“Between the Moon & the Midwest” – Austin Lucas*
“Above the Prairie” – The Pines
“Fortune” – Rod Picott
* glaring omissions
Buffalo Ruckus – Peace and Cornbread
Why do we have big names in there, this should be for non superstars
Why should this list be for non-superstars? We cover a healthy mixture of established artists and up & comers and have been doing so for 18 years. This is just how we do things…
I enjoyed the parade of great albums
Advise an old man how to scroll down?!?!?!
Might take a minute to load. Once it’s loaded, you should be able to scroll down through the complete gallery of 100.
Todd Snider’s two albums are better than all the rest put together .Rest in Chaos is the best album I’ve heard in years.
Portland’s Richmond Fontaine made the best record of the year in this genre. You Can’t Go Back If There’s Nothing To Go Back To.
