Over the course of the past seven years, Dallas’s the O’s have crafted a sonic signature all their own, pairing Taylor Young’s low drawl and acoustic guitar strumming with John Pedigo’s higher-reaching vocals, spritely banjo picking, and melodic harmonica playing. It’s an utterly charming yin-yang combo that only manages to get more and more irristible with each new record the folk duo puts out, as the forthcoming (Feb. 5) Honeycomb proves once again. Lone Star Music is proud to premiere one of the standout tracks from the new album, “Medicine,” a perfect showcase for the O’s ability to grow while staying true to form and to evolve without needlessly straying.

Honeycomb, the O’s fourth album, was recorded under rather wild, rustic circumstances last spring after the studio Young and Pedigo initially planned on using was devastated by the floods that ravaged the Texas  Hill Country. Determined to carry on, the resourceful duo — along with producer Frenchie Smith and engineer Sean Rolie — secured themselves a trailer near the River Road Ice House in New Braunfels, set some microphones up, taped blankets to the walls and got right back to work.

The result? Arguably the best O’s album to date. Young summed it up best when talking about to the Dallas Observer back in November: “To us, it sounds exactly like it should sound: [Like] some dudes up on a hill in a singlewide.”
