On May 20, Fort Worth’s Quaker City Night Hawks will be releasing what we’re already declaring — having played the ever-living hell out of it for weeks ever since we got our hands on an advance — one of the best albums out of 2016: El Astronauta (Lightning Rod Records). But although that record is sure to put the band on the national radar, plenty of discerning Americana and rock fans here in the Lone Star State have already been hip to the Night Hawks for years. The crowd at Lone Star Music and KOKE-FM’s Dillo Mixer at Threadgill’s World Headquarters on March 18 were treated to a short but powerful set that spotlighted not only songs from the upcoming new album, but road and roadhouse-tested favorites like this one: “Greasy Night,” from the band’s 2013 album, Honcho.
